the journey begins with the Innersense Detox Hair Mask

Switching to organic haircare can be a bit tricky, particularly if your mane is used to harsher ingredients. But whether you're new to natural hair care or just want to give your scalp a good clean to remove product build up, reach for the Detox Hair Mask. This clarifying treatment uses charcoal, kaolin clay and certified organic white vinegar to draw microparticles to the surface without stripping the hair of its natural oils. It will leave your hair clean, residue-free and smelling like a vanilla latte.

Now particularly if you have thick hair, you might be wondering how to use a hair mask. Does it go only on the scalp? Does it matter if my hair gets most of it? Well, for this particular product, the product should be applied on damp hair, and then gently worked from root to tip. Basically, it’s designed to remove unwanted build up from nasties like silicones, waxes and microplastics. Depending on your hair type, you might need a couple more applications before your tresses are sufficiently detoxed and ready to accept pure, organic care. I think of my own hair that I’ve routinely fried, dyed, bleached and doused in eye-watering chemicals for “mangeability” which was fleeting, at best. I needed about 3 uses before I made the switch to pure hair products!

TIP: In our experience, Innersense shampoos take a lot of water for optimal performance. This means, don’t apply it straight from the bottle. Instead, pour a coin-size into your palm, and lather generously with water before applying on your roots and massaging to the tip. You can also lather it in a small jug, and pour the diluted formula on your hair. To be frank, we wouldn’t recommend using any shampoo directly onto the scalp, because they tend to be high pH and dry out the scalp. The unintended upside is that your product lasts a lot longer!

innersense + curly hair: How does it rate?

Is Innersense Curly Girl Method approved? It sure is! A cursory glance at CurlScan.com shows no less than 15 out of a total of the brand’s 18 products get the tick of approval. This includes the Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control, Leave-In Conditioner and Innersense I Create Waves.

The Innersense Curl Control product is essentially a styling cream designed to define and separate curls, eliminate frizz and smooth textured hair. It does all this without stickiness, and without weighing down your curls into an oily mess. For some impressive results, work two coin-sized amounts through medium-length and loose curls while it’s still wet after shampooing and conditioning. You can add a bit of Innersense I Create Hold afterwards, or else go straight to using a diffuser for about 10-15 minutes for beautiful definition.

For 4C hair, the same method also works. For silkier definition, try using the Innersense Hydrating Hair Mask after conditioning for about 15 minutes, before proceeding to styling.
