BUY KRAVE BEAUTY IN AUSTRALIA? KANVAS BEAUTY GUIDE 2021

THE HYPE AROUND THIS CULT K-BEAUTY BRAND IS REAL!

Korean superstar brand Krave Beauty was created by beauty influencer and blogger extraordinaire Liah Yoo in a bid to formulate skincare products with only the very necessary ingredients for effective results. In other words, the Krave Beauty range is designed to give your skin what it craves, without any filler ingredients. The result is an entirely vegan, cruelty free and clean set of products. We especially love that Krave Beauty skips fragrances, essential oils, artificial colours and other potential allergens. This makes it a great candidate for even the fussiest of skin types.

A CLEAN K-BEAUTY ROUTINE

The other thing about Krave Beauty is that it’s an easy introduction to Korean skincare. The product range is a complete skincare routine in itself. It consists of:

1. A cleanser (Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser);

2. An exfoliating toner (Kale-Lalu-yAHA);

3. A serum (Great Barrier Relief);

4. A moisturiser (Oat So Simple); and

5. A SPF (Beet The Sun).

Simply use the products in the above order and voilà! You’re on your way to glow town. Keep reading as we go through each Krave Beauty product, their key ingredients and how best to use them - so you can get the most out of your routine.

THE MULTI-TASKING SPF: BEET THE SUN

*12/4/2021: There's been an update on Beet The Sun from Krave Beauty, with this product now discontinued. See below in our FAQ under "What SPF is Beet the Sun" for more information.

Beet the sun with this beauty - even in Australia where the sun only has two settings: ‘non-existent’ or ‘I’m going to fry you today’!

Also known as The Beet Shield, Beet the Sun is a fabulous multi-tasker: it will treat uneven skin tone, hydrate and offer protection from the sun’s rays in one application. It contains some pretty stellar ingredients including beetroot, allantoin and glycerin. In addition, it boasts a high SPF (SPF50+), and uses organic chemical filters to block both UVA and UVB rays. You won’t find any hormone-altering ingredients here. You might be wondering what beetroot’s purpose is, besides being a questionable ingredient in burgers. The answer is that beetroot is abundant in Vitamin C, which brightens the skin and offers protection from free radicals. Its other key ingredient, glycerin, is a humectant (read: moisturizing factor) while Allantoin is a natural plant extract that soothes sensitive skin and speeds up the healing process. This makes Beet the Sun perfect for dull, dry skin, or anyone whose concerns include hyperpigmentation.

Out of the bottle, it applies white but dries sheer when gently rubbed in. Thankfully, tan and darker skin tones don’t need to worry about a white cast. Just be aware that it has a dewy finish, so it isn’t the most suitable SPF for oilier skin types. Also, it’s not recommended for those with rosacea or severe skin conditions – likely because it contains active ingredients. Check out our review of Krave Beauty’s Beet the Sun and other SPFs here.

THE SENSITIVE SKIN FIXER: GREAT BARRIER RELIEF

This is a Krave Beauty bestseller, and it’s obvious why.

It’s basically THE salve for dry, irritated and sensitive skin. If you’ve overdone it on the active ingredients, have red or allergy-prone skin, or merely want to prep for that new acid/retinol/laser treatment, then Krave Beauty’s Great Barrier Relief is for you. It is one of the best skin soothing serums around, without exaggeration. Its nourishing formula uses tamanu, rosehip and safflower seed oils, as well as ceramides, squalene, and glycerin. These ingredients mimic a healthy skin barrier while niacinamide reduces skin sensitivity.

The result? Less redness, a more even complexion and a subtle glow. Even rosacea and eczema sufferers benefit from it. Best of all, it pairs beautifully with active ingredients. No wonder it routinely receives rave reviews. Use it every day, or as often as your skin needs it.

THE CROWD-PLEASER: MATCHA HEMP HYDRATING CLEANSER

Krave Beauty's Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser is one of those rare face washes that suits everyone – from oily skin types to the very dry. It boasts a healthy pH and won’t mess up your skin barrier, but still cleans beautifully. The key ingredients in the formula are antioxidant-rich matcha and hemp seed oil – which is packed with amino acids. We can’t get enough of amino acids in skincare because they work to protect the skin from free-radical damage and reduce signs of ageing.

Krave Beauty doesn’t use any harsh foaming or cleansing agents that you’ll find in cheaper cleansers like SLS; instead, the Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser uses the gentle alternatives Coco-betaine, Coco-glucoside and Decyl glucoside. These mild ingredients will clean your skin without harming your skin barrier and leaving you with that uncomfortable, tight feeling. What’s particularly great is that a little bit of this product goes a long way: you only need a coin-sized amount at a time, making it economical to use.

Did you know Krave Beauty is eco-friendly? All its products are 100% recyclable – including the labels. That’s a big plus in our books.

THE PERFECT AHA FOR SENSITIVE SKIN: KALE-LALU-YAHA TONER

Krave Beauty’s Kale-Lalu-yAHA is a glycolic acid toner, combining two steps in one. It’ll remove any trace of impurities stuck in your pores after cleansing, as well as exfoliate thanks to its AHA content. AHAs have an instant brightening effect as they work by buffing away dead skin cells – but they can be a hard ingredient for sensitive skin to handle. This is where Krave Beauty comes in with Kale-Lalu-yAHA. Its 5.25% glycolic acid concentration is effective but still gentle enough on reactive skin. Soothing aloe vera (the formula’s number 1 ingredient) and hyaluronic acid also act as buffers. Kale, parsley and spinach provide a dose of antioxidants and give the toner that lovely minty green colour. Even if you don’t eat all your greens, your skin will drink this up! We think this toner is particularly good for treating hyperpigmentation, fading acne scars, and reducing the appearance of pores. It’s also suitable for dry skin if followed with a moisturizer. You can use it as often as your skin can handle it: oily skin can apply this daily (as Liah Yoo does), while sensitive skin might only require it 2-3x a week.

NOT TOO HEAVY, NOT TOO LIGHT: OAT SO SIMPLE MOISTURIZING CREAM

Speaking of moisturizers, Krave Beauty’s Oat So Simple cream is probably the Goldilocks of moisturizers. Its formulated with less than 10 ingredients so you won’t need a chemist to interpret the ingredients list.

Broken down, it contains oat, water, 3 moisturizers, 2 emollients and 2 formula stabilizers. Oatmeal is the star ingredient, beloved by dermatologists for its barrier-enhancing and anti- inflammatory properties. It also absorbs excess oil, and gently brightens the skin. The best thing about Oat So Simple from Krave is, well, its simplicity. It suits any skin type and blends into everyone and anyone’s skincare routine. It hydrates without clogging pores and doesn’t contain any irritants. In fact, it’s designed to be the perfect complement to the more active ingredients in your routine, like acids and retinol. It’s just good, old-fashioned hydration in a jar, whenever you require it.
