PAO – Period After Opening

The open jar symbol is a common sight on beauty products. It indicates how long a product can be used after it has been opened. The number next to the symbol, followed by an "M," indicates the number of months that the product can be used. For example, if you see the open jar symbol with "12M," it means that the product can be used for 12 months after it has been opened. You will often see this symbol on makeup products such as foundation and lipstick.

Mobius Loop

The mobius symbol on a product's packaging indicates that the product is either made from recycled materials or is able to be recycled. However, it does not guarantee that the product can be recycled in all locations. It is always a good idea to check with your local recycling program to see what materials they accept.

Green Dot

The Green Dot symbol can be found on products that are made in more than 30 European countries. It indicates that the manufacturer has paid a licensing fee to use the symbol and has contributed to national recycling companies to help collect and recycle the product's packaging. The Green Dot symbol is a way for consumers to identify products that support recycling efforts.

E-mark (Estimated Sign)

The E-mark symbol is similar to the Green Dot and is also often found on products made in Europe. It indicates that the average quantity of a batch of products should not be less than the stated nominal quantity. In other words, the product should contain at least the amount of product that is stated on the packaging.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) symbol, which looks like a tree with a tick mark at the end, indicates that a product is sustainably sourced and produced. This means that it has been made in a way that helps to protect forests for future generations. You can find the FSC symbol on paper products, such as boxes. Choosing FSC-labeled products is a way to ensure that you are supporting environmentally responsible practices.

The symbol is recognized internationally and is used to indicate that the company follows the standards set by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). Refer to insert

The booklet symbol on a product's packaging indicates that there is additional information about the product included in the packaging. This information may include warnings, ingredients, and application instructions. The symbol is used when there is not enough space on the packaging to include all of the necessary information about the product. If you see this symbol on a product, you should refer to the booklet for more information.

Best Before End Date

The hourglass symbol on a product's packaging indicates that the product will expire within 30 months, regardless of whether it has been opened or not.

Flammable

The flame symbol on a product's packaging indicates that the product is flammable and should be kept away from heat and open flames. This symbol is commonly found on products like hairspray, deodorant, and nail polish remover, as these products often contain alcohol and gases that can ignite. It is important to handle and store these products safely to prevent fires.

Resin Identification

The resin identification symbol is used to identify the type of polymer in a product when it is being recycled. It is important to correctly classify plastics when recycling, as mixing different types of plastics can make the recycling process more difficult. Although many plastics can be recycled, only a small percentage of plastic waste is actually recycled. The various rules and symbols used in plastic recycling can be confusing for consumers, making it difficult to understand how to recycle different types of plastics.

Ecocert Symbol

The Ecocert symbol indicates that a product contains a high percentage of organic ingredients. If the symbol includes the word "organic," it means that more than 95% of the plant-based ingredients come from organic farming. If the symbol says "natural," it means that at least 50% of the plant-based ingredients are organic. This symbol is a good way for consumers to identify products that are made with a high percentage of natural, organic ingredients.

UVA/UVB (in a circle)

The UVA protection symbol is used to indicate that a product meets European standards for protection against UVA rays, which can cause skin cancer and premature aging. The symbol includes a circle. If the UVA stamp appears without the circle, it means that the product provides some UVA protection but does not meet the recommended standard. This symbol is often found on sun protection products and is used alongside the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) symbol, which indicates the level of protection against UVB rays. The SPF number tells you how much the product will protect you from UVB radiation, and the PA symbol indicates the level of protection against UVA radiation.

Vegan Products

Not all cruelty-free products are vegan, meaning that they do not contain any ingredients or materials that come from animals. Vegan products will display a vegan symbol to identify them as such. The Vegan Trademark from The Vegan Society is a widely recognized symbol that indicates that a product is completely free of animal ingredients. Cruelty-free products, on the other hand, have not been tested on animals but may still contain animal-derived ingredients. It is important to check the labels and symbols on products to understand their ingredients and production methods.

The CE marking indicates that a product has met certain safety, health, and environmental protection standards set by the European Union (EU). Parabens Free Symbols

Some consumers prefer to purchase products that do not contain certain ingredients, such as parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. To help customers identify these products, manufacturers will often include symbols on the label to indicate that the product is free of a particular ingredient. If you are looking for a product that does not contain a specific ingredient, you can check the label for the corresponding symbol.

Cosmebio

The Cosmebio logos are used to certify products that meet the standards set by the French organization COSMEBIO. The ECO symbol indicates that a product contains at least 95% natural ingredients, with at least 5% of the total product and 50% of the plant ingredients coming from organic farming. There are many other logos that indicate a product's organic or natural content, and the specific standards for each logo may vary by the certifying organization. It is important to research the regulations of each certifying organization to understand the meaning of each logo.

Fairtrade

To use the Fairtrade mark, a product must contain only ingredients that have been certified by the Fairtrade Foundation. In order to qualify for Fairtrade certification, an ingredient must meet certain standards for social, economic, and environmental responsibility set by the foundation. Both companies and farmers must meet these standards in order to produce Fairtrade-certified ingredients.

Gluten Free

Some people have sensitivities or allergies to gluten and must avoid consuming or coming into contact with products that contain gluten. For these individuals, it is important to choose products that are labeled as gluten-free to ensure that they are safe to use. The gluten-free label helps people with sensitivities or allergies to easily identify products that do not contain gluten and make informed choices about what they use and consume.

Tidy Man

Symbols are an important way to understand how to properly dispose of products and take care of the environment.

Korean Expiry Dates

If you are using Korean products and are not familiar with the language, it can be confusing to understand when the products expire. In Korean, the expiration date is indicated by the character 까지, which means "until" in English. This character is used to show when a product should be used by. To find the expiration date on a Korean product, look for the 까지 character and remember that the date is written in the YYYY/MM/DD format. This will help you ensure that you are using the product before it expires.
