100% vegan, 0% pretentious. That's the motto of straightforward American brand Acure Organics. All of its products are formulated with 100% natural ingredients, without any parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, formaldehyde or PEGs. And the best thing about Acure? The brand knows it's not enough to be natural: it also has to work. Acure's ranges have been designed to produce results, taking your skin and hair from blah to brilliant. If you need another reason to love it, all Acure products are 100% biodegradable. Good for you, and good for the planet! No wonder it has amassed a horde of fans (just check out the Acure Organics reviews on Makeup Alley).
One of Acure Organics’ most popular ranges is its haircare. We feel like there is pretty much an Acure shampoo for every type of hair. Blonde hair? Yep. Brunettes? Duh. Wavy and curly hair? Step right up! Fine, limp hair? You bet. You get the idea. From clarifying to colour protection, Acure Organics Shampoo and Conditioner have got you.
If it’s your first time switching to natural haircare, Acure is a good place to start. It’s affordable, fun, and comes with plenty of variations as you’d find in supermarket formulas. The difference is that it uses clean ingredients and natural fragrances, while skipping harsh surfactants and foaming agents. The experience though, will still be similar. One of the complaints about natural haircare is that it doesn’t quite feel the same – that’s both good and bad, as far as consumers are concerned. While people love the gentler and reparative touch, many tend to miss the foaming and the hair softening. In fact, Acure’s own founder Kristy struggled to give up her conventional shampoo. This is what prompted the brand to come up with a natural hair care line that still rivalled the performance of non-natural brands. And indeed, Acure’s shampoos and conditions work. Acure shampoos don’t contain sulfates, yet they’re deliciously foamy and clarifying. Its conditioners are great on color-treated and curly hair, taming and detangling like a pro. You’ll barely feel the transition.
For the final hydrating touch, apply some Acure Moroccan Argan Oil to your scalp and dry ends. 100% USDA organic and cold-pressed for maximum nutrient extraction, Acure’s Argan Oil is rich in essential fatty acids and proteins.
The Acure Skin Care range is vast. There’s a whole universe of products to suit everyone’s skin goal. You’ve got Brilliantly Brightening for hyperpigmentation, Seriously Soothing for sensitive skin, Resurfacing for exfoliation and congestion, Radically Rejuvenating for mature skin, and Incredibly Clear for acne-prone skin. On top of that, there’s a range of facial oils (The Essentials) and foil masks for a bit of extra pampering. You can mix and match from these offerings to form a highly-tailored clean beauty routine without much need to go anywhere else!
As with everything else from the brand, Acure face products are clean, vegan and cruelty-free. For a more detailed discussion, check out the Fab Flamingo’s Acure Organics Review here. Or keep reading to find out about some of our favourites below.
An Allure Best of Beauty Award Winner, the Acure Brilliantly Brightening Facial Scrub is impressively dense with sea kelp, Fresh green clay (accounting for that green-smoothie colour) as well as natural brighteners like Madonna Lily and lemon peel. There are no microbeads here, making it reef-safe and suitable for delicate skin. What does the Acure Brightening Facial Scrub do exactly? The gentle keratolytic action leaves your complexion brighter and softer to the touch. Some users have found that the Acure Facial Scrub has been pretty effective in clearing up mild acne and congestion as well.
If you’re not a fan of physical scrubs but want to get at this green dream of a formula, reach for the Acure Face Mask from the same range. You can also opt for Acure’s Resurfacing range, which combines active ingredients like glycolic acid with the rather awesome-sounding Unicorn Root for the ultimate exfoliation without physical abrasives.
Whether your choice of exfoliant is physical or chemical, applying an oil-based serum like fan-favourites Acure Glowing Facial Serum or Acure Super Greens Serum will dial up the new-skin radiance. The star ingredient here is Borage oil, which is naturally rich in linolenic acid. As a side note, Borage oil treats all kinds of skin inflammation including eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and rosace. Using it after exfoliating will replenish some of lipids that your skin may have lost, preventing the emergence of dry patches and irritation. Acure’s Blue Tansy Oil deserves an honourable mention here. This naturally-cobalt-tinged antioxidant oil is especially great on sensitive skin, thanks to anti-inflammatory Blue Tansy, nourishing Kukui oil and kale extracts.
Why are some eye creams so darn tiny? Not Acure Organics Vegan Radically Rejuvenating Eye Cream! This 30ml tube (the size of a standard facial moisturizer) uses Edelweiss extract and chlorella to provide deep hydration to the delicate, crepey skin under your eye. The formula also contains COQ10, an antioxidant by which Japanese women have sworn for years (fun fact). It reduces sun damage, stimulates the production of collagen and can help decrease the appearance of fine lines.
Acure Organics Marula Oil is up there with the best of them! It’ll give you the same result as a much more expensive brand of Marula oil, being (as with all of Acure’s facial oils) 100% USDA organic and cold-pressed. Don’t believe us? Just check out this review here. Marula is certainly one of the richer oils out there, with a high level of proteins and fatty acids. This makes it great for a damaged skin barrier or persistently dry skin. It won’t leave you looking totally slick either – while it finishes dewy, it’s absorbed surprisingly quickly.
Speaking of dupes, tryAcure’s Radically Rejuvenated Whipped Night Cream, which is widely considered an affordable dupe to Drunk Elephant’s Prolitini Peptide Cream.
Q: Who owns Acure?
A: Acure Organics was founded by Kristy and Jon Guerra in 2011. Inspired by Kristy’s grandmother’s decade long battle with cancer, Kristy began looking at the correlation between chemicals in common cosmetics and illness. Her quest for natural but effective alternatives in the skincare industry lead to the creation of Acure!
Q: Where is Acure based?
A: Acure is made in the USA, with its head office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Q: Is Acure vegan?
A: Acure is 100% vegan and is not animal-tested. No bunnies were harmed in the making of its products!
Q: Is Acure clean beauty?
A: While there’s no universal definition of clean, we’d venture to say that by most standards (including by Kanvas Beauty’s own definition), Acure is a clean beauty brand. You won’t find any parabens, sulfates, dyes, artificial fragrances or drying alcohols in its formulas.
Q: Is Acure environmentally friendly?
A: Acure prides itself on being an eco-friendly brand. In fact, all its products are 100% biodegradable, its cardboard cartons are Rainforest Alliance Certified, and its bottles are recycled HDPE, PET or glass. In previous interviews, both Jon and Kristy have iterated that people and the planet share the same goal importance as profits.
Q: Are Acure products non-comedogenic?
A: Comedogenic ingredients in skincare have a relatively higher incidence of blocking pores. Both natural and artificial ingredients can be comedogenic. Acure’s products appear to use mostly non-comedogenic ingredients. With that said, it really is your skin, your way. What may suit others may break you out and vice versa. So, always remember to patch test first!
