You can shop the best of Neogen (including Neogen Dermalogy Green Tea Real Fresh Foam Cleanser, Probiotics range and Bio-Peel Gauzes) in Australia right here on Kanvas Beauty!
Ahh Neogen, we love thee like a summer’s day. It's cruelty-free, innovative, affordable, doesn't contain any nasty ingredients (parabens, mineral oils, sodium lauryl sulfates or artificial colours) and best of all, works for all skin types. One of the most popular drugstore brands in Korea, Neogen uses proprietary ingredient blends to achieve your anti-ageing, clearing, hydrating and brightening goals. Driving the fermented skincare movement and making washing your face an experience (yes, there are actual flowers in its Real Flower Cleansing Water range), Neogen skincare will give you pharmacy-grade results in cute packaging.
One of Neogen’s most celebrated products is its biopeels (Neogen’s Wine Peel is a personal favourite of ours) from its Dermalogy range. These exfoliating pads were so effective, they went viral! Called Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Pads, it gives those with sensitive skin a truly effective option to remove dead skin cells without irritation. These textured pads contain lactobionic acid (a gentler alternative to AHAs), to combine the effect of both physical and chemical exfoliation. At the same time, your skin is comforted by an array of nourishing ingredients. The Wine Peel for instance, contains powerful antioxidants like resveratrol and is great for those with ageing concerns. Neogen’s Green Tea Gauze Peeling Pad offers anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, while Lemon gives your skin an additional brightening boost. Need more convincing? Check out this stellar Neogen Peeling Pad review from Buzzfeed (which also suggests using them on your elbows, kneecaps, and anywhere else you have rough skin).
Speaking of viral products, here’s another, more recent one from Neogen. Thanks to its incredible gunk-removing ability, the Pore Tight Peeling Mousse from Neogen went viral on TiKToK. Virtually overnight, it went from underrated K-Beauty product to a 26,000 person waiting list – have a look at one of the video reviews here. How does Neogen Pore Mousse work exactly? This light-as-air mousse uses alginic acid and marine extracts to literally peel the dirt and excess sebum from your pores. The combination of ingredients is supposed to create a ‘vacuum’ effect, but we’d add that red algae in particular has been shown to purify skin. The formula also contains sebum-absorbing ingredients like charcoal powder. So yes, it is legit!
And it is so easy to use as well. It kind of feels like you’re rubbing whipped cream all over your face (please don’t eat it, though). The results are seriously impressive, and makes face-masking a lot more fun. Hey, over 500 5-star reviews on Amazon don’t lie! But don’t worry, you don’t need to wait behind 26 thousand other people: the Neogen Pore Mousse is available in Australia at Kanvas Beauty, obviously. Tip: ALWAYS shake the bottle vigorously before use (trust us, it makes a difference). Use it with the Pore Tight Refreshing Serum and Aqua Mask in a 7-step routine for the best results.
Possibly one of the prettiest and coolest aspects of Neogen are its cleansers. The Real Fresh Foam series include Neogen’s famed Green Tea Cleanser, whose formula actually includes visible fermented green tea leaves. Fermented ingredients and green tea have long been staple ingredients of Korean beauty, prized for their brightening and calming benefits. We found the Neogen Green Tea Foam Cleanser is particular good for clarifying congestion-prone skin. The brand put this cleanser through 7 different clinical tests to ensure its prowess at removing excess sebum and decreasing the appearance of pores.
Or you can opt for the Real Fresh Foam Cranberry Cleanser (yep, there are visible cranberry extracts in that one too) if you have mature skin. It harnesses the antioxidant goodness of cranberries as well as sea plankton and hyaluronic acid to cleanse without stripping. There’s also the Real Fresh Foam Blueberry Cleanser. With a pH of about 7 (matching that of water), it’s reasonably gentle and particularly effective on oily or congested skin.
For skin on the drier side, try the equally awesome Neogen Real Fresh Green Tea Cleansing Stick - created in collaboration with none other than Soko Glam’s founder, Charlotte Cho. Winner of the 2017 Teen Vogue Acne Awards and dubbed "one of the coolest creations to come out of Korea”, this Green Tea Cleanser is an all-in-one, low pH face wash. How do you use a cleansing stick? It’s super easy. Just swipe this green tea and vitamin E-infused stick across a damp face, and massage to lather. It reduces product wastage (smart) and is a great option for travel. It also does the job beautifully in terms of sweeping impurities for a clearer complexion!
Reach for Neogen Cleansing Water if you have sensitive skin. The Dermalogy Real Flower Cleansing Water Calendula has – yes, you guessed it – actual calendula flowers floating around in its ultra-gentle formula. This micellar water is loaded with calming ingredients, including allantoin, chamomile and cucumber and won’t cause a tight or burning sensation on your skin.
This Neogen essence is one of the brand’s most beloved – and for good reason. It’s a dry, dull and ageing skin transformer. This is particularly great if you’ve found your skin too sensitive for vitamin C, or you hate its stability issues. The natural skin brighter in this formula is fermented rice. Made popular in the Western world by SKI-II, Neogen’s fragrance-free essence is famous for blessing users with ‘honey skin’ (i.e. that next level glow). And at only a fraction of the price of SKI-II’s famous Pitera Essence, it’s a compelling buy!
But first, what is a ferment essence? Simply put, it’s contains the hydration and clarifying power of a toner with the potency of a serum, and makes a good intermediary step within a 7-stage Korean routine. Naturally fermented ingredients make constitute 93% of the Neogen formula, of which 17% is birch juice – another brightener and cell-communicating ingredient. So, when people ask us, is Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence is worth the hype? We say YES. Don’t think, just try it. Use with the toner and serum of the same name to give you the best results. It’s worth noting the Neogen Essence does not contain niacinamide, while the Micro Serum does. This makes the Serum particularly useful for sensitive skin.
This has got to me among my favourite Neogen products: the Dermalogy Serum Spray. Available in two forms - H2 Dermadeca and O2 Energy Power – all you need to do is spritz it on your skin after your toner and before your moisture. No rubbing needed! Dermadeca is made with 80% hydrogenated water and madecassoside to soothe irritations (focus on any red spots). O2 Energy Powe meanwhile, contain seaweed extract and hyaluronic acid to restore moisture and revitalize.
From invisible finishes, to tone-up formulas, to soothing creams – Neogen offers a range of sunscreens. The best one really depends on what you’re after. For instance, the Neogen Dermalogy Day-Light Protection Sun Screen offers broad spectrum SPF 50 protection in a sheer lightweight, emulsion. Silicone-free and infused with rose and raspberry extracts, it’s particular great on oily skin.
If your skin is like mine and is triggered by literally everything (I feel your pain), try the Neogen Surmedic Azulene Mild 5.5 UV Protect Sun. This blue-toned fluid gets its hue from blue tansy, well known for its calming properties – and dries clear, making it perfect for darker skin tones! If you’re looking for an SPF that blurs pores and sits beautifully under makeup, reach for the Neogen Surmedic Azulene Mild UV Tone-Up Sun Primer.
You’ll probably fall in love with the Surmedic Azulene range at this point (like we did), so try layering it up with the Peptide Ampoule and Soothing Cream to reinforce your skin barrier and protect it from free radical damage. For ageing concerns, switch to the Neogen Surmedic Super Peptide 100TM Collagen Lifting Serum to obliterate fine lines and restore elasticity.
Now, while Neogen is a cruelty-free brand, if you’re looking for a specifically vegan anti-ageing serum, try the Neogen Dermalogy Real Bakuchiol Firming Serum.
