UPCRICLE SKINCARE: OUT OF THE DRAGON'S DEN AND INTO YOUR BATHROOM
This, young, award-winning U.K. brand is making recycled beauty sexy! UpCircle Beauty is a pioneer in the by-product beauty industry. Its vegan and cruelty-free skincare products are handmade in small batches, using perfectly good, skin-loving ingredients discarded by other industries. For instance, UpCircle has saved over 350 tonnes of coffee grounds from landfill alone! But that's not the only reason to try their range: do it for the excellent results and reviews. Yes, UpCircle's skincare is really effective and is defined as high-performance skincare. This eco-brand isn't just beneficial for the environment, it's also great for your face and body. And that's a message we can stand by.
Try it and see for yourself! Kanvas Beauty is expanding its stocked range of UpCircle Beauty every month. Let’s explore the brand in more detail below, and our favourite products.
WHO OWNS UPCIRCLE BEAUTY?
Do you know how UpCircle began? Anna and William, a sibling duo, took on the Dragons in the Dragons' Den, UK (their version of the Sharktank) - and won! Three Dragons liked their vision of building a global beauty brand that actually reduces the impact humans have on our environment and provides an effective alternative to toxic skincare products. They raised the money required to launch their companny off the ground, rebranded themselves as UpCircle Beauty, and the journey began. 6 years on, the brand has achieved some serious kudos - its products have won numberous awards, and are stocked across the world (Sainsbury's UK, Wholefoods USA, Credo Beauty etc).
WHY KANVAS BEAUTY HEARTS UPCIRCLE
Apart from all the things listed above, there are two key reasons why UpCircle is a winner in our eyes. Firstly, its products are surprisingly luxe and highly effective. Secondly, the company is certified plastic negative, meaning it removes more plastic from the environment than it creates. The environment matters, and it's important to Kanvas Beauty to keep scouting and stocking brands which are having a positive impact on the planet. Now, let's talk our favourite products!
UpCircle Beauty - Organic Face Serum With Coffee Oil
UpCircle's Organic Face Serum with Coffee Oil blends vitamin C-rich sea buckthorn, rosehip oil and coffee oil (from repurposed grounds) to make a nourishing formula that brightens the complexion. This coffee face serum is good for a multitude of reasons: firstly, its a gentle skin illuminator, making it an option for those who find pure vitamin C too irritating. Secondly, it's more of a facial oil than a serum - so it's extremely moisturizing. Thirdly, you can dot a drop over each cheekbone in the morning to give yourself an extra glow- it's like a natural highlighter!
We're split on how you use this UpCircle serum, though. The conventional way is to pat 1-2 drops on the face after cleansing and toning, and before your moisturizer. You can also add a couple of drops to another serum or cream. Our personal favourite method, though, is to use this after your moisturizer, because it's more of an oil. You'll only need a teeny bit, and this will help "seal in" your cream. It'll also leave you with a lovely, dewy finish. Perfect for dry and mature skin.
UpCircle Beauty - Vitamin E Face Moisturiser
UpCircle's multi award-winning Vitamin E Facial Moisturiser supercharged with argan-derived vitamin E will give your dehydrated skin the nourishing attention it deserves! Dermatologically-approved and set in a base of cocoa butter, aloe and blood orange, it's thick but not oily, despite being so effective in keeping skin hydrated all day (thank you, vitamin E). We love it because it layers well on top of a 7 (or 10, for those K-Beauty afficionados) step skincare routine. Plus, it doesn't pill under makeup! For a natural, moisturizing glow, we mix a couple of drops of ĀTHR Beauty's (another sustainable beauty brand) Desert Sun Glow Oil into a pea-sized dab of this cream, and dot it along our cheekbones, brow bones and nose. No filter needed.
UpCircle Beauty - Natural Soy Candles
Urgh, UpCircle's Chai Latte Candles and Espresso Martini Candles smell so GOOD. Repurposed ingredients and sustainably sourced soy wax make up 35+ hours of burning - so you get bang for your buck. You can also rest assured there are no toxic chemicals and it won't give you a fragrance headache! Its scent fills a room without being overpowering, and smells like what you'd want to smell when you first wake up in the morning - roasting coffee beans and brewing chai with fresh spices.
Cinnamon & Ginger Chai is made of pink clay to purify and tame redness, while organic ginger and cinnamon oils reinvigorate your senses.
Chocolate & Charcoal Chai uses activated charcoal to draw out excess sebum and rebalance an oily T-zone, while cacao boosts circulation.
Fennel & Cardamom Chai is formulated with green clay to deep cleanse, while zinc-rich fennel targets breakouts.
Like all of Upcircle's skincare, these soaps are free from palm oil and harsh chemicals, and clean without stripping. You can use it in place of your face wash, body wash - even shaving foam! They're not drying (especially when you use it afterUpCircle's Cleansing Balm) and they seem to last for ages too. Our personal staff favourite is the Cinnamon and Ginger Chai - it feels a teeny bit tingly, in a good way.
