How to Develop Self-Love: A Beginner's Guide

Hello Kanvas Beauties! 💓 I’m back to divulge about something a bit serious and a bit different - my journey with self-love.

I’m so guilty of comparing myself to others – "her hair is so effortless, that dog is so well-behaved, they’re so much smarter, skinnier, richer, funnier, friendlier, taller or whatever better than me." The reality is, we’ve all spent buckets of money trying to level up whether it’s physically, mentally or emotionally and it sure is tiring.

The light bulb moment for me was when I realised I had to stop ruminating about who I was, or obsessing about who I wanted to be in order to be happy with who I am now. That’s probably a quote from somewhere, but this little trick was something I picked up on while meditating!

For the longest time, I equated "self-love" with "being selfish". The idea of putting myself first was such a foreign idea! What I learnt is that self-love comes in many different ways for different people, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is to start somewhere.

Some of the things that I do for self-love:

  • Deep breaths when bad thoughts come through like “I’m not enough” – focusing on my breathing lets the thoughts melt away.
  • Working on being grateful for different things in my life! Like my fluffy blanket, my gorgeous doggy or the wine I get to drink tonight. 😊
  • Going for massages - just because. They make me SO happy so why not?
  • Listening to music while I work because it lifts my mood.

I feel like I’ve only started about 5% of my self-love journey and that’s OK too. I’d love to hear about what you do for self-love, or what you want to try in the future?

Tuning out for now Kanvas Kult! Catch you all soon. 💓 Remember to always #loveyourkanvas

Your girl pal,
Hannah x

How to repair a damaged skin barrier (from someone who has had to repair their skin barrier multiple times)

Skin irritations and allergies are never fun, but a damaged skin barrier is a whole new level of hell. The good news, is that our skin is a resilient organ and can heal relatively quickly. The not-so-good news is that you'll need to peel back all your fancy skincare for the time being, get consistent with a simple routine, and resist putting any active ingredients on your skin until it heals. You can do it, let's get into it!

Beauty of Joseon's Revive Eye Serum: Does it live up to the hype?

This is the first eye cream I ever used to completion

Listen, I've always been a bit sketchy on eye creams and serums. Are they actually necessary? Do you even need one? Why are they so tiny but so expensive? I'll be honest: I didn't bother during my 20s and early 30s. If it was good enough for the rest of my face, it was good enough for my eye contour area! Then my late 30s hit me like a trout slap in the face, and so did the sudden dryness, fine lines, and pilling if I dared to wear makeup.

The Best Eye Cream? We've tried it

What does an eye cream do? Well, it pretty much does what a moisturizer would. It can hydrate, soothe, treat fine lines, hyperpigmentation, etc. So do eye creams really make a difference? And is an eye cream really better than moisturizer for your face? The answer is, they can indeed make a difference to your skin AND they can be better.
