THE STAR INGREDIENT: CENTELLA

But one ingredient you’ll see frequently is uber-popular Centella Asiatica, which is a Purito formula base staple. Also known as Gotu Kola, Tiger Grass and Indian Pennywort, this green herb is packed with amino acids, beta carotene, fatty acids, and numerous potent phytochemicals. It also boasts anti-microbial and circulation-boosting qualities. While you’ll see come across centella frequently in Korean skincare, we think Purito harnesses its soothing and anti-ageing qualities in a way that’s hard to beat! Purito’s centella sunscreens were recently mired in controversy after independent testing revealed that their maximum SPF protection level was actually 19 (instead of the advertised 50). That’s also why we’ve placed a note on the product, and removed its SPF50 title. But it’s worth noting the following: as we understand it, it would be helpful if SPF were tested and appraised to universal standard. However, this is just not the case as it varies from country to country. In addition, the level of protection offered from an SPF19 doesn’t vary greatly from that offered by an SPF50.
According to a medically reviewed article in Very Well Health, these are the protection differences between SPF levels:
• SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays
• SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays
• SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays
• SPF 100 blocks 99% of UVB rays
The bottom line is that after SPF30, the level of protection offered by a higher SPF level is only incremental. Hence, even if Purito’s sunscreen is SPF19, its percentage protection level would still be in the mid-90s. This still makes the Purito centella sunscreen an effective product for cloudy days, light sun or filtered sunlight. And remember – the two important but frequently overlooked factors in sun protection are the amount applied (remember the two-finger rule) and re-applying every 2-3 hours. SPF can tell you how long you can stay in the sun without getting burned. If it takes you 15 minutes to burn without wearing sunscreen, then applying an SPF 10 means it will take you 10x longer to burn (or 2.5 hours).
IT ALL STARTS WITH THIS: THE CENTELLA GREEN LEVEL BUFFET SERUM
If you’re looking for a starting point with Purito, then this centella serum is it. It contains a whopping 49% concentration of centella extract as well as peptides, niacinamide and ceramides. The outcome? A decrease in fine lines, redness, inflammation, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and acne. The addition of humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid means it also banishes dry skin. Is there anything this serum can’t do? Not really! The Centella Green Level Buffet Serum is the perfect complement to the harsher elements of your skincare routine (acids, retinol etc), and is also a great way to treat skin sensitivity. The key to the Purito centella serum is consistency: regular, daily use can yield benefits in as soon as a week. For those who don’t enjoy fragrance, it also comes in an unscented version.
DOUBLE THE IMPACT WITH THE CENTELLA GREEN LEVEL CALMING TONER
If you’ve ever doubted the efficacy of toners (especially the thin, alcohol-based types that just seem to dampen skin and not do much else), then you’ll love this one. The Centella Green Level Calming Toner is alcohol-free, with a skin- matching pH of 5.5 and many of the same ingredients as the Buffet Serum. It’s got a jelly-like texture but still absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn’t feel tacky. While it feels like a tall drink of water on application, it’s not just for dry skin. The refreshing, non-greasy formula means the Purito Centella Toner is suitable for even oilier skin types. With that said, users see the biggest improvement when applied on irritated skin. Centella, panthenol and madecassoside work to actively counter inflammation.

Things to love about the From Green Cleansing Oil: a short, hard-hitting ingredient list; a clean, vegan formula without PEGs, ethanol, mineral oils, phthalates and parabens; and delicate enough for use on the eye area and during pregnancy. The texture of this Purito cleanser is quite thick, thanks to a nourishing blend of olive, sunflower, jojoba seed, sweet almond and grapeseed oils. But surprisingly, it still emulsifies beautifully and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy.
All-in-all, it’s great for all skin types, including the congestion-prone because of its ability to get deep into the pores and sweep away impurities. Just be aware that it doesn’t dislodge waterproof make-up as easily. However, it works just fine on regular make-up.

All skin types can enjoy the Power Essence, with only a few caveats: those with Malassezia-induced skin conditions (e.g., psoriasis, atopic dermatitis etc) should avoid galactomyces or any fermented ingredients (alternatively, snail mucin is great substitute for those particular issues). Use it after cleansing and toning, or even in place of a toner. For a more concentrated effect, try a multiple application method: apply over the face and wait for it to dry, before repeating the process a for a second or third time.
